Those who made it to the DMV in Grand Junction Monday morning had to deal with even longer lines than usual because of a state computer issue.

Some were thinking the outage may have been related to the DNS computer virus that was expected to hit unprotected computers on July, 9th. But the manager of the Grand Junction DMV said it involved a piece of broken equipment that needed to be replaced with the state computer system.

Adding to the burden, the branches in Fruita and Clifton were both closed on Monday, bringing more people to the Grand Junction office.

And if that wasn't enough for a Monday morning, the DMV's credit card system was also down, so they could only accept cash or checks.

"It [the state computer system] enables us to pull records from the state, to do printing of titles or printing of records that are coming from other counties and updating them," said Janet Williams, manager of motor vehicles in Grand Junction.

Employees were still able to issue everything with the exception of titles for most of the morning.

But, shortly after 11:00 a.m. Monday, Williams called KJCT to tell us the state computer system was back up and running again as usual.
