GRAND JUNCTION, Colo -

A former County Commissioner turned in his petition to once again be in the race for County Commissioner.

John Leane is running as an independent candidate for the soon to be vacant District 1 seat.

To get his name on the ballot, he turned in the signatures of over a thousand registered voters.

Dissatisfaction with how the Democrat and Republican parties have evolved over the past years led up to Leane's decision to run again.

He says his prior experience as a commissioner will help him make the right decisions for Mesa County.

?A short term budget cut in one thing, what I think is equally important is, what's that mean for the next ten years?? Leane said. ?If you do this today it solves today's problem but did it create one down the road.?

Leane served as a Mesa County Commissioner from 1989 to 1993.

He says he's not in this race for fun; he's in it to win.
