GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -

If you've filled up your gas tank recently, you know that gas prices continue to fall but the same can't be said for the rest of the country.

Our region of the country is enjoying considerably lower gas prices than other areas of the U.S. and Colorado drivers say they appreciate of every bit of saving they can get.

"If they'd just stay where they're at it'd be nice", says Adam Merha, Grand Junction motorist.

That’s what Grand Junction drivers are hoping for after seeing gas prices dipping below $3 a gallon. The numbers have dropped consistently for several weeks, and gas station owners say their customers couldn't be happier.

"We’ve seen a lot of people with surprise and shock that it didn't take as much to fill their car up as it did just a few weeks ago. So yeah, they're happier about saving money filling up", explains Mike Rathbone, General Manager of the Shell sag station at 1st and Grand Ave.

Colorado currently has one of the cheapest average gas prices in the county, sitting at $2.89. The price drop of more than 40 cents in just a month is allowing not only for more gas in the tank but more green in the wallet.

"I’m able to pay my bills, I’m able to get food, get things I need for my personal life and my job. So, it helps tremendously" says Zane Morse, Grand Junction motorist.

Adam Merha said he also appreciates the lower prices after returning from California where prices were 60 cents higher.

"I'm in the transportation business so I fully understand what the price of gas can do to you, but it makes things a lot less stressful and you could move around a little bit freer” explains Merha.

But drivers are realistic, knowing this can't last forever and they need to enjoy it while they can.

"That seems to be the trend. It’ll drop in the winter when nobody's traveling and then as summer hits and people travel, it'll go back up”, says Morse.
