The city of Colorado Springs is on the verge of adopting oil and gas regulations.
The Gazette reports that the city council majority agreed Monday to move ahead with oil and gas regulations (http://bit.ly/QSb0Z4 ). However, the board says it wants to re-evaluate the regulations in 12 months based in part on statewide oil and gas initiatives proposed by Gov. John Hickenlooper.
The state is currently in litigation with the city of Longmont over drilling rules. At issue is whether the state alone has the power to regulate oil and gas drilling.
Colorado Springs officials want to know if the city can legally lease mineral rights on city land to a private party.
