Colorado outdoor retailer Jax Mercantile says it will stop selling assault-style rifles and high-capacity magazines at its six stores in Colorado and Iowa because of the mass shootings of schoolchildren in Connecticut.
Jax President Jim Quinlan told the Boulder Daily Camera on Friday (http://tinyurl.com/d3a5rds ) the company will sell its existing inventory but won't order more.
It wasn't immediately clear exactly what type of weapons are covered. The company didn't immediately respond to a phone call and email from The Associated Press.
Quinlan says Jax will not sell magazines holding more than 10 rounds.
He says the Connecticut shootings weighed heavily on him.
Jax is based in Fort Collins and has stores there and in Lafayette and Loveland, Colo., and one in Ames, Iowa. Jax will continue selling conventional hunting rifles.
