GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -

The Grand Junction Central Library started moving into it's temporary location Monday at the old Ashley Furniture store off 1st and Gunnison.

The library estimates it will take two weeks to get everything moved.

Employees and volunteers will spend all this week packing up books by section, and next week they will move furniture and computers.

On Monday, movers began packing up the fiction section of the library. All together the library houses about 150,000 books that will need to be moved by Friday.

On Tuesday, movers will pack up half of the non fiction section, and finish transporting the rest of those books on Wednesday.

The library says now that the moving is here they are excited for the work of the renovation to start.

"We've been planning this for a long time and this really just makes it real," public information officer Bob Kretschman said. "I mean when you have books and shelves going out the door, it's real now."

Normally the library opens at 9:00 a.m. but all week it will delay opening until noon. This gives movers the chance to pack things up and move them to the temporary location.

On Saturday, August 4th, the library at 5th and Grand will be closed until next spring when the renovations are completed. The old Ashley Furniture Store will open to the public the week of August 13th.

The library says while it's moving the central location, all other branches will be open their regular hours. It's website is also a good place to reserve and hold books in the meantime.
