The Colorado Department of Transportation has just launched a mobile app that should help you navigate I-70 this winter.
Officials with Cdot expect the application to improve travel experiences throughout the state.
Highway conditions and traffic information will be more accessible, dynamic and interactive on Cdot Mobile.
You can determine the best route to travel based on weather conditions, road work and travel times.
Cdot engineers hope that if users have a chance to make better decisions about their mode of travel, and the route they're taking, transportation will be more productive for everyone in Colorado.
"Well, travel information is very important in reducing congestion and reducing travel times, and frustrations for travelers. And we're excited to launch this new application, it includes information for us here on the Western Slope, such as closed-circuit camera feeds along the highway, [and] weather information," said Sean Yeates, Cdot Traffic and Safety Engineer.
According to Cdot officials, the I-70 corridor running through the mountains is the busiest stretch of highway in the state. That's why Cdot Mobile is launching in that area first, before expanding to other regions in Colorado.
And the application comes at a great time for those excited to ski and snowboard this winter.
With more people commuting on I-70, and weather conditions making travel riskier, the app should help alleviate some of the problems associated with the traditional hustle and bustle of ski season.
