A car crash Saturday morning leaves two children dead and a woman with serious injuries according to the Colorado State Patrol.
The incident happened just after 8 a.m. on Highway 50, east of Gunnison.
A 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt was traveling westbound near milepost 169 when the driver lost control on the snow packed highway.
The Cobalt spun into the eastbound lane and was struck on its passenger side by an eastbound 1994 Chevrolet Beretta.
The driver of the Colbat, 22 year old Jamie Dowling of Texas, was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash and sustained serious injuries. She was transported to a for treatment.
The vehicle's two passengers, a 5 year old boy and a 2 year old girl, were restrained at the time of the crash but sustained fatal injuries. The boy died at the scene while the girl was pronounced dead at the local hospital.
The Beretta's driver, 23year old Everardo Ento-Salida of Gunnison, was wearing his seat-belt at the time of the crash and sustained minor injuries.
Excessive speed and alcohol or drug use are not suspected as contributing factors in the crash at this time. The snow packed roadway had been plowed prior to the crash, and snow reportedly was falling at the time of the crash.
The Colorado State Patrol is investigating the crash. No charges have been filed against either driver, and any potential charges will be determined at the conclusion of the investigation.
