PALISADE, Colo. -

Wine Fest may be over for another year, but some local vineyards are still reaping the benefits of being open on a Sunday.

Grand River Vineyards has been participating in Wine Fest since it started 21 years ago.

Owners say they've watched the festival grow every year as it's helped put Palisade on the map for all wine lovers.

Over the weekend, Grand River Vineyards walked away with six awards, including a double gold for the "Best of Fest White Wine".

"Meritage White is not a new wine that we make, but it's a very fruit-friendly wine, we've done it for a long time...absolutely delicious with foods, stinky cheeses, fish, chicken, but very, very versatile white wine, lightly oaked," said Naomi Smith, of Grand River Vineyards.

Smith says the Sunday after Wine Fest is typically the busiest day of the year for her. Grand River Vineyards is open 362 days a year for wine tasting.
