If you saw a Blackhawk helicopter buzzing over the Grand Valley Thursday morning,  rest assured it was only doing battle against poverty here in Mesa County.

Army National Guard members touched down at the armory in Grand Junction, along with several other dignitaries, to help out a very special cause, the distribution of presents by the Salvation Army.

Captain Dan Wilson, the commanding officer of the Salvation Army, says the National Guard has really been a huge help to their efforts over the past few years.

"Actually they've stepped up their efforts," explained Wilson.  "This year they actually did a toy drive for us.  They packed food boxes for us.  They allowed us to use the building.  They provide manpower.  They help pick up some of the food."

Donations were distributed both Wednesday and again Thursday to families who requested help from the Salvation Army this season.

Toys were organized into boxes according to each families' request.
