Bill to ban abortion in Colo. gets first hearing
Colorado lawmakers are scheduled to debate whether to ban abortion with a bill that stands little chance of passing the Democratic-led Legislature.
The Republican-sponsored legislation would ban abortions in Colorado and make it a felony to perform one. The bill is set to be heard Thursday in a House committee controlled by Democrats who oppose the proposal.
The bill would exempt cases where a doctor performs an abortion to prevent the death of the mother and when an unborn child dies accidentally during medical treatment.
