You may have noticed a few new residents of Duck Pond Park in the Redlands.

Park officials say beavers have made the park their home, but the new animals are creating some problems for park officials.

If you've been to the park recently you may have seen the damage yourself, as the feisty rodents are destroying trees.

Officials say it's a problem that isn't good for the park or for their budget.  They say the trees are valuable and cost a good deal to repair.

Tom Ziola, a park supervisor for the City of Grand Junction explains, "...The problem when the beavers get into parks like this and trees that we've planted is that they damage the trees. That's their job, that's what they do. And they girdle the trees and they fail. They can become unsafe. They can injure their health. And eventually they have to come down."

And the beavers haven't stopped at the park.

They've also made their way across the roadway and are destroying trees on residential property.

Officials are doing their best to stay on top of the problem but they encourage anyone who sees any damage to give them a call.  They say if they find them, they are trapping the beavers and releasing them back into the wild away from the park.
