GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -

If you're looking for some help paying for your winter heating bill, you're encouraged to apply for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program.

LEAP applications are now available for Mesa County residents.

You can pick up an application at the Mesa County Department of Human Services at 510 29 1/2 Road.

According to Mesa County officials, applications will be taken through April 30.

LEAP benefits are the same regardless of when the application is processed.

If applicants are financially eligible to receive LEAP benefits, the payment will be sent directly to the provider and will show up as a credit on the applicant's heat bill, according to the Department of Human Services.

Officials say LEAP isn't intended to pay the entire cost of home heating but it is designed to lessen the burden.

For more information about LEAP benefits you can call Western Colorado Resources by dialing 2-1-1 or 244-8400 from a cell phone.
