GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -

A Grand Junction man that’s wanted by authorities is still on the loose. The Mesa County Sheriff's Office attempted to contact Abel Nunez, 36, over the weekend but he fled the area before deputies could arrest him.

Nunez is wanted on warrants for vehicular eluding and drugs. The sheriff's office says this man needs to be behind bars.

Deputies attempted to contact Nunez on Saturday in Orchard Mesa, near 29 and B roads.

Deputies are asking anyone with information about his location to contact their non-emergency dispatch number at (970) 242-6707.

Dispatch sent out a recorded message on Saturday afternoon to people listed on the Emergency and Community Alert System.

The text message asked people to stay inside their homes and report any suspicious activity.

A second text message was sent out a few hours later telling people the request by the sheriff's office had been lifted and people were welcome to leave their home if they needed.
