More jobs and fewer taxes. That's the message hundreds of people were trying to send today at the Rally For Jobs event in Grand Junction.

The event, sponsored by the American Petroleum Institute and many others, brought people to talk Colorado jobs.

"We're out here to support coal, oil and gas energy on the Western Slope," said Tim Fenwick said. "We need jobs we don't need cap and trade tax."

"We want to express our frustration with the government and in terms of job creation. What they're doing right now is not working," Kelly sloan with Americans For Prosperity said.

"It's important that we exploit natural resources in the us instead of pouring the money out of the country to nations that really don't like us," Arvid Mosnes said.

Two Rivers was bustling with supporters of the oil and gas industry, as well as opponents of federal legislation that would possibly tax these types of companies.

"Jobs are going to be in jeopardy if they continue to move forward with these tax hikes, that are going to effect our energy industry, that has already gone through a lot of tough times here in Colorado," said Trevor Taylor.

Many say the goal is to bring back Colorado's oil and gas industry.

"We got to see first hand how much of an effect the energy industry has on jobs and job creation here in Western Colorado," Taylor said.

A non-partisan group there, said it's not only worried about oil and gas, but energy production as a whole.

"Colorado is blessed with an abundance of resources and can help keep us secure and independent. we have 300 days of sunshine, some of the best wind in the nation we have 1/4th of all the coal bed methane," said Becky Sinclair with the Rocky Mountain Energy Forum.

KJCT spoke with Mesa County Democrat Party, Friday, and they say they don't believe any proposal in congress will pass for cap and trade taxes.

Also, according to a spokesman for Sen. Michael Bennet, he "supports passing effective, well-thought-out market-based legislation to reduce carbon emissions and increases our use of our clean energy resources like wind, solar, and natural gas. Legislation that will help grow our economy and create jobs here in Colorado."
