GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -- You have a chance to help speed up cancer research. The charity called Stand Up To Cancer is holding a national telethon on Friday to drum up donations. The effort started in 2008 and has already raised over $100,000,000. The goal is to bring therapies and even cures for cancer to patients.Donations go to the American Association for Cancer Research.St. Mary's hospital says they would benefit from grant money. We have various needs in the research arena and patient support arenas where we might apply for funds to help with those efforts," Medical director, Dr. Mark Hancock said.Hancock says one of the hospital's focuses is to support patients after diagnosis and hospital care, so they can continue to get better.St. Mary's also has a survivorship program but as the program becomes more used it's outgrowing available funding. If you would like to donate log onto https://www.standup2cancer.org/Default.aspx .Otherwise you can view the telethon Friday at 8 p.m. on many channels.
