GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -- If you live or work in Grand Junction, you will receive a calendar from the city in November.
Every year the city spends thousands of dollars getting it to you - but now some cutbacks are on the way.
The city has been known to spend $50,000 on this calendar before. Now they are trimming off 12,000 from the cost. But, that's not what a lot residents are concerned about.
"I use it for a calendar. I use if for scheduling all kinds of things," resident Bryan Collings said.
"It's got a lot of good information on it and it's a nice calendar," resident Marion Shaw said.
Beautiful photos highlighting the places we live.
Resident Chuck Kormman said, "I like them, they're local they're places I know."
But this upcoming calendar year has the city developing something new. To save money, color will be taken out of the pages. But some say with the beautiful images that photographers capture it makes all the difference for the photos to be in color.
"They should spend 50,000 and leave it in color, or make it smaller or get some advertisements to go along with it," resident Gary Gaertner said.
"I can live with it but I like the color better than black and white," Kormman said.
"It's maybe a little bit of a drawback," Collings said. "But if it saves some money I suppose it will be great."
"I liked the calendar in color but I completely understand why they would have to do that for the budget cuts," resident Sarah Struwe said.
Sam Rainguet with the city has been reviewing the entries and says you won't be disappointed.
"I think it's going to be gorgeous," Rainguet said.
Another way the city is cutting back is not paying the artists to use their work. But even with the efforts of cutting costs, some still say the whole thing is too much.
"You could easily put that money to better use than put it on a calendar," resident Georgiana Leonard said.
