Man Rides Thousands of Miles for Non-Profit

Hopes to Break World Record Along the Way

POSTED: 4:02 pm MDT July 28, 2010
A Wyoming man escapes death in a childhood bike accident, then is told he'll never live a normal life.

Twelve years later, he's proved the experts wrong and wants the world to know how he did it.

Jerry Christensen flatlined twice after a mountain bike accident at age 15.

"All the medical experts said I would never go to college or work longer than 6 weeks," says Christensen.

Now, he's founded the "Brain Shift Foundation" based on a theory he calls "recovery meditation". The process is based on identity, appreciation and love.

Christensen works with anyone who is recovering from an injury or illness to help them through it. He says he's seen some profound recoveries, including a spinal cord injury victim.

"Within 45 minutes, he had controlled movement for the first time in his legs in over 17 years," Christensen says.

Christensen is riding his bike across the U.S. and Australia to raise awareness and funding for research to prove his theory. He's riding his bike over 13,000 miles total. The tour ends next year in San Diego.

He hopes to raise a few million dollars and break a world record for the world's longest benefit for a non-profit foundation.
