GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) -- When you woke up this morning, you might have remembered a weird dream you had last night.
But how do you decipherer a dream that makes you say "what?"
A dream expert who spoke at Mesa State Thursday night says themes in your dreams can say a lot about what you are going through.
Many people have dreams that involve running away from someone scary, killing something, or even dying. There's nothing crazy about it, it's actually normal.
According to dream specialist Greg Hoeflicker, dreams are simply your subconscious reacting to things happening in your life.
So, what does it mean if you dream you are going to die or you kill someone? According to Hoeflicker, death represents change.
For example, say you are starting a new job. A dream can reveal feelings that you have about it.
"If you feel like you're not in control of the change that is going on, it might show up in a dream as someone trying to kill you," Hoeflicker says. "But if you are actively aggressively proactively making a change, you may have a dream that you kill someone."
Hoeflicker says your dreams almost always stem from emotions or thoughts 48 hours before you dream them.
Therefore he recommends tuning into your dreams and thinking about the message that your brain is trying to send you.
Hoeflicker says if dreams become reoccurring, you have not resolved the issue in your life that's causing that dream.
Other common symbols are: flying, which represents a freedom of thinking, and marriage, which symbolizes commitment.
If you can figure out the symbolism in your dreams, maybe you can get some real insight to your awake life.
