Traveling during the hectic holidays

The thought of travel during the holidays makes many folks cringe, but for some the hectic traffic is more than worth it to see their loved ones.

Mike Mckeon said, "We plan on traveling to Arizona, we plan on going back there because my wife's son is going for his fourth tour in Afghanistan so it's worthwhile to spend time with family."

Just like every holiday, Americans all over the country are preparing to hit the road, the rails and even the skies to get where they need to go.

Wave Dreher, AAA Spokesperson said, "In Colorado approximately seven hundred and thirty seven thousand of us will be traveling over the thanksgiving holiday. and eighty seven and a half per cent of us will be driving, so that means we'll be sharing the roads with about six hundred and forty eight thousand fellow Coloradans."

AAA also told us that sixty six thousand Colordians are flying this year, a 1.8 percent decrease compared to last year.

Nationally, more than 40 million people are traveling over 50 miles for the holidays, with more than 3 million taking to the sky.

For those who are hitting the road, gas prices are falling slightly, but many still find the prices to be far too high, with the average gas price per gallon in Colorado being three dollars and forty cents.

"I'm paying what I can pay, because gas isn't too cheap right now so," said Mckeon.

Its advice Yvonna Claeys of first class travel gives to all her clients

"start early, plan ahead, make sure your car is weather prepared, make sure you have what you need, we say pack some snacks ahead especially if your traveling with kids, it's most cheaper to buy that than stop in the convenience stores, so take your time, check the weather reports before you head out," said Claeys.
