GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -

As we enjoy the warm weather, many ski shops are feeling the heat from the lack of snow.

Snow, powder, the white stuff- whatever you'd like to call it, it's safe to say we're lacking it.

While the weather may bum out all the ski bunnies and snow boarders, the absence of snow also greatly affects ski shops.

The manager of the ski shop at Gene Taylors says even last years sales were higher by this point in the year.

He also said that he hasn't sensed the normal excitement in the ski community yet, nor has he seen the usual beginning ski-season rush.

“With the lack of snow, it's kind of detouring people, we're still getting 50 degrees outside and sunny days so, there's still golfers straggling around, we haven't really gotten in the mood yet to get out there and start skiing, so we're waiting for that big dump, to get the skiers out there and get in the mood and get the white stuff on the ground."

So far in this slow ski season, rental and general ski sales are down.

Case says the last time his shop was full was the winter season of 2010, where the ski rental shelves were quickly picked over by the community.

This year’s ski shop however, remains fully stocked.

Case added that last years first big snow storm was just before Powderhorn’s opening day, so his fingers are crossed for history to repeat itself.

Opening day at Powderhorn is just around the corner, next Thursday, December 13th.
