6th Annual Turkey Trot

It certainly was a little chilly this morning but that didn't stop all the runners, walkers and turkey lovers from attending the 6th annual turkey trot.

The race was held as a benefit for injured and sick firefighters, as well as a fundraiser for toys for tots.

The annual race is held by the Grand Junction fire fighters foundation and all were welcome; friends, family, kids and even pets.

Before folks gobbled up their thanksgiving dinner, they had a great workout to start off their holiday.

Ray Jenson, Turkey Trot runner said, "It's fantastic it's great for the running community in Grand Junction, it brings out a lot of people who I think normally would be doing a lot of other things on Thanksgiving so it's a great day to take a walk or run, it's a great cause and it's a win for everybody."

The 5-k race began at connected lakes state park and lots of runners showed up early to stretch and prepare for the cold weather.

Almost six hundred people finished the race today, but lots more showed up to cheer on the runners, and treat themselves to the race's first ever pancake cookout.

The firefighters at the event say they're more than proud of the Grand Junction community and want to thank all the folks who stuck out the cold weather and attended the race this morning.
