Nearly 75 million youth (defined by the International Labor Office as people ages 15-24) are unemployed around the world, an increase of more than 4 million since 2007.
At 12.6 % in 2011 and projected at 12.7 % in 2012, the global youth unemployment rate remains at least a full percentage point above its level in 2007. By 2016, the youth unemployment rate is projected to remain at the same high level.
Although (large) differences in regional youth unemployment rates remain, all regions
face major youth employment challenges.
