Ugandan girl gets new life in Grand Junction

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. It's a family seven years in the making, as one Ugandan girl can finally call Grand Junction her home.

Grace is a 13-year-old girl who was a throw away baby in Uganda. More than seven years ago chiropractor, Shalona McFarland, was on a mission trip in Uganda when she met and fell in love with young Grace. She stayed in contact with Grace over the years and finally, after a series of legal hoops, McFarland and her husband were able to adopt her.

“Giving up wasn't an option. I was going to stay there until I came home with her. It was definitely trying and we were tested in every way possible,” said McFarland.

She says the process took so long because of lying lawyers, passport access for Grace and problems with the embassy.
