Tippetts on leave amid FBI investigation

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Director of Aviation Rex Tippetts is on paid administrative leave from his position with the GJ Regional Airport amid the FBI investigation.

According to the President of the Airport Authority board Denny Granum, the board decided that it was in the best interest of the investigation if Tippetts was placed on paid administrative leave. The board's vote was unanimous.

"It gives us free access without any intervention on the part of the airport director of the facility and all of the records," Granum said.

Tippetts' leave is for an indefinite amount of time. According to Granum the board is amid their own internal investigation, although they do not know how long it will take to go through the investigative process.

Also, Granum says there is no indication of any wrongdoing by Tippetts, the only reason he is on leave is due to the investigation.

Amy Jordan , Deputy Director of Administration, has been appointed as interim director.

As far as the airport is concerned, it is still running as normal. Despite all the snow on December 4, plows were running all night to keep the airport functioning regularly.
