BOULDER, Colo. (AP) University of Colorado police are searching for a man who tried to break open an ATM by pouring acid on the machine.
The Daily Camera reports that the thief wasn't successful in the May 29 attempt, but that a student who tried to use the machine a few days later suffered chemical burns.
The chemical caused internal damage that has rendered the machine unusable.
Police have released video of the acid attempt in an effort to find the thief, a white male wearing a cap. The suspect is seen returning twice to check the progress of the acid and to try to steal cash from the machine. He faces charges of criminal mischief and attempted burglary.
Investigators have not identified the acidic chemical.
