New calendar to break stereotypes of beauty

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. A new kind of calendar and attitude are coming to the Western Slope using pictures of models that break out of society's mold.

The Voluptuous Women of the Grand Valley are looking to reverse stereotypes about beauty and show that people can be beautiful no matter what size they are.

"Curves are beautiful. Bodies are beautiful," said calendar creator Amy Tilton. "It doesn’t matter what shape, size, ethnicity, anything."

The calendar, 'Volume,' features 18 local women in boudoir settings.

The models have their hair and make up done professionally then a photographer takes more than 300 photos of them to get the perfect shot.

"I don't think any of the girls have ever really done a photo shoot especially in this nature," Tilton said. "I know for myself personally it was very empowering."

The 18-month calendars will go on sale in June for $15 each.

$10 of the proceeds from each calendar will be donated to March of Dimes.

There will be 1,000 calendars available for purchase and each month will feature a different model.
