New Castle celebrates community heritage

NEW CASTLE, Colo. (KKCO) Mini farmers and ranchers took over a New Castle school today to honor the community's heritage.

Riverside Middle School celebrated the 15th annual Harvest Daze festival.

Students learned about blacksmithing, how to make butter and apple cider and they even went on hay rides, but officials say there was an academic element to each activity.

Community members came out to share their talents with students a trapper showed off animal fur and utility company employees talked about electricity.
