GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. On Thursday evening, a local hospital opened its doors to an organization that has been a support system to moms and babies for more than 75 years.

The March of Dimes is the leading non-profit supporting infant and maternal health.

On Thursday, they gathered to kickoff their 2014 March for Babies season at St. Mary's Hospital.

They welcomed the community to celebrate their cause and talked about new ways to engage more people in their biggest fundraiser, March for Babies.

"We're really just trying to kick that awareness off and make everybody know that the Western Slope is here," says March of Dimes Division Director, Terri Jones. "We're doing some great things."

The March of Dimes was expecting about 50 people Thursday to get the season started.

The March for Babies however usually brings around 1,000 walkers.

The walk will be on April 26th at Lincoln Park.
