GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Our community's fire heroes are stepping up to save Christmas for some children.

Grand Junction firefighters packed up shelves of toys at the Rimrock Walmart to give to Toys for Tots.

"You get to help people out," said Brian Kretschman, of the Grand Junction Fire Department. "Christmas is a big holiday for kids so anytime you can help kids and families out it's a good feeling."

Firefighters donated $8,000 worth of toys, games and presents for children of all ages who might not have a gift under the tree otherwise.

Toys for Tots collects new, unused and unwrapped toys to give to children in need.
