PALISADE, Colo. Cold temperatures can cause problems for farmers and the livestock they are trying to feed whose food has been frozen solid, but local entrepreneur Mary Leonard has created an invention that solves the problem.

"I just remembered all of those horrible days in the winter of having to chop frozen feed," Leonard said. "I kept thinking, 'there's gotta be a better way, there's gotta be a better way.'"

Mary's Cranky Feeder runs horse feed through a metal contraption and a metal hand crank powers it to break up the molasses when it is frozen in the winter and sticky in the summer.

The feeder also separates food into gallon size portions.

"Everybody who has it loves it," she said. "They're going, 'How did we live without this?'"
