GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. A new school in Grand Junction is spreading holiday cheer, while also fundraising for its students.

The Juniper Ridge Community School hosted its first holiday fair with 20 craft booths.

A wide variety of crafts were available for holiday shoppers from ornaments and wreaths to jewelry and even some of the students' own crafts.

The event also included a chili cook off and visits with Santa.

The goal of the fair was to bring the community together as much as it was about fundraising, said Donald Samson, director of curriculum at Juniper Ridge Community School.

"This is the time of year when we want to bring more light into the hearts of people who are a part of our community and getting together like this is exactly what it does," Samson said.

Juniper Ridge Community School opened this past August for kindergarten through sixth grade.

The school has 160 students so far.
