Flu and whopping cough on rise in Colorado

MESA COUNTY, Colo. Colorado is seeing a rise in the flu, as the state's whooping cough epidemic continues.

The good news is most of the reported cases for the whooping cough and influenza-associated hospitalizations are on the Front Range. In Mesa County, there have been eight reported Pertussis cases this year and only two hospitalized cases of influenza.

"We're not seeing numbers out of the ordinary here, even though the front range is. We consider that a good reminder for people to get vaccinated just in case," said Veronica Daehn-Harvey of The Mesa County Health Department.

The Mesa County Health Department offers both the T-dap, vaccine for Pertussis and the flu shot. The Department also recommends consistent hand washing to prevent the spread of germs.
