Exempting tax on food in vending machines

By  |

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. The Grand Junction City Council has decided to change the tax structure for vending machine companies in the city.

The council voted 6-1 Monday in favor of changing the status of food sold through vending machines to tax exempt.

They also decided candy and soda sold in the machines would remain taxable, keeping their policies in line with both the county and the state.

Local vendors say in addition to spending the extra income they'll receive without the sales tax on food, operators can also invest in new vending technologies; like credit card readers and updated machines.
