Dog shot to death after threatening children

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Scary moments Sunday after a dog became aggressive toward two young girls and was shot to death.

Around 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, in the Albertsons parking lot on 12th and Orchard, officials say a dog which they believe was a pit bull, allegedly tried to attack two children.

The father of the two girls shot at the animal before it could attack his daughters.

Grand Junction Police say he did have a concealed weapons permit and is not being charged with anything at this time. Officials say it appears he was trying to protect his children.

The father told us, he didn't want to shoot the dog, but says he had not choice.

Animal control removed the body of the dog. Officials with Mesa County Animal Services say they cannot comment on the case at this time because it is still under investigation.

A woman was also arrested on a warrant around the same time of the incident. It is not known if she was the owner of the dog or connected to this incident in any way.
