LA PLATA COUNTY, Colo. An exercise testing mulch-jurisdictional communication will commence Tuesday morning in La Plata County.
The training will run from around 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., while physical set up will take place at the Durango Fire Rescue station from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
The exercise is done periodically to test radio and other forms of communication that would be used during a response to a multi-agency, mulch-jurisdictional emergency or planned event. It will be a test of the Southwest Region Tactical Interoperable Communications Plan (TIC).
Other counties that are a part of the Southwest Region, as it pertains to the Colorado Division of Emergency Management, are San Juan, Montezuma, Archuleta, and Delores.
The objective of the exercise is to improve the capability and efficiency of area public service communications in the event of an emergency and to have tested back-up systems in place in the event primary communications systems are out of service. During last year's exercise, over 6,000 responders communicated over the various systems in a two hour period, simulating high volume use during an emergency.
