Chamber: Hoping to break even on local holiday sales

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Christmas is right around the corner, but some are holding tightly to their wallets, which is causing concern among local stores.

Officials at the Grand Junction Chamber of Commerce said with the uncertainty of the economy, including recent major lay offs at the Oxbow mine, local businesses will be lucky to hit the same sales mark as they did last year.

Stores saw a boost in sales during the Parade of Lights and Small Business Saturday during Thanksgiving weekend also helped shop owners.

Official numbers of holiday sales will not be released until February, but the Chamber is hoping to see another increase in shoppers right before Christmas.
