GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Wednesday a Colorado judge ruled that the ban on same sex marriage in Colorado was unconstitutional.
This is the 16th judge to rule that a ban on same sex marriage is unconstitutional, even though his ruling was put on hold pending an appeal.
Many local gay rights activists are now speaking out, saying it’s a huge step in the right direction for equality. They say Wednesday was an exciting day for the LGBTQ community in Colorado.
“I'm super excited I currently don't have a partner but just to know that in the future me and my family will be able to be protected under the law the same as anyone else family would be” said Casey Sadahiro, a local gay rights activist.
While there are more steps to come before making same sex marriage legal, supporters believe this is a great moment for the community. Sadahiro also says that knowing 61% of Coloradans support equal marriage rights gives them hope that marriage equality will soon be coming.
