The Grand Valley comments on the Monument

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. The Mesa County community gathers to share their thoughts on the proposed status change of the Colorado National Monument.

Senator Udall and Congressman Tipton led a public comment session earlier Saturday afternoon at Grand Junction City Hall to hear what the residents of the Grand Valley have to say about the proposed national park legislation.

Both leaders stressed the importance of the community agreement in order to continue moving forward with the drafting of this bill.

"It's very important since it's so intimate to Mesa County to hear what Mesa County has to say,” says Congressman Tipton.

Government officials say they will only move towards national park status of the monument if the bill is community driven and locally supported.

The public commented on both sides of the issue at Saturday's meeting, and officials hope to hear more from the public during their 90 comment period.
