GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Members of the community came together yesterday on the steps of the old County Courthouse to observe National Day of Prayer.
Thursday's celebration is part of a large scale effort to return the United States to "one nation under God."
The participants of Thursday's event were led through songs of worship and took part in communal prayers written by guest speakers.
"We're praying over everything imaginable from government, education, media, marriage, and family. just national transformation," says Jim Hale, event organizer.
The theme of this year's day of observance was "One Voice United in Prayer," and calls for individuals to place their faith and prayers in God.
The formal law that enacted the observance of this day was signed in 1952, but President Washington was the first president to honor the day.
