Musical freestyle for dogs in the Grand Valley

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Dog trainers and enthusiasts all brought their pups down to K9 Powersports for a quality musical freestyle session.

Musical freestyle is new sport for canines that works to stimulate their minds while creating a close bond between the dog and its handler.

Wednesday's attendees included several dog shelter trainers looking to learn some tricks to take back to the kennels.

"we're learning to train our dogs better so that we get more attention from our dogs, and we get a better behaved dog, and a dog who feels safer in the environment," says Sue Sternberg.

Shelter trainers hope the choreography from the musical freestyle sessions will keep dogs from going kennel crazy and make them more adoptable.

Additional benefits of musical freestyle include improved communication between dogs and their trainers and better behaved canines.
