Fire at downtown apartment complex

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. An apartment complex off 10th Street and Colorado was the scene of a fire Monday morning.

Crews with the Grand Junction Fire Department were dispatched around 4:30 a.m. and they arrived to visible flames coming from the residence. They were able to contain the fire to the first floor of the structure, using their foam suppression system to control the fire.

Grand Junction police say two officers were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. One was taken to the hospital as a precaution, but has since been declared fine.

The two police officers went inside the building because they'd gotten reports someone was inside and fire crews had not yet arrived; however, No one was inside the building.

Fire officials say there was significant damage to the downstairs apartment where the fire started and smoke and heat damage to the entire complex, and as of Monday afternoon it was unclear whether the damage is reparable..

Officials also say there were no fire detectors in the complex and they're fortunate there were no deaths.

The cause is still under investigation..
