An Oscar win, or even a nomination, might give you the necessary career boost in Hollywood, but it won't keep you from going to jail. Just ask these celebrities.
Reese Witherspoon, who won a Best Actress Oscar for "Walk the Line," was charged with disorderly conduct in April 2013 after apparently interfering with a Georgia state trooper's arrest of her husband, Hollywood agent James Toth, on a drunken driving charge. She later apologized for her behavior.

Nick Nolte, nominated for "Prince of Tides," "Affliction" and 2011's "Warrior," was arrested in September 2002 after a California Highway Patrol officer saw his car driving erratically. He was cited and released on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence.
Woody Harrelson, nominated in 1997 for "The People vs. Larry Flynt" and again in 2010 for "The Messenger," was arrested by Columbus, Ohio, police in October 1982 and charged with disturbing the peace (he was allegedly dancing in the middle of a busy road and tried to run away from the cops). Harreslon, 21 at the time, avoided jail time by paying a fine.
Robert Downey Jr., who earned acting nominations for "Chaplin" and "Tropic Thunder," has a history legal troubles, including nearly a year in a California prison on drug charges.

Downey was also arrested in April 2001 in Culver City, Calif., for suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance, but was released a few hours later.
Frank Sinatra, an Oscar-winner for "From Here to Eternity" and a nominee for "The Man with the Golden Arm," was arrested in New Jersey in 1938 and charged with carrying on with a married woman. The charge was later changed to adultery, and eventually dismissed.
Steve McQueen, nominated for Best Actor in 1967 for "The Sand Pebbles," was busted in Anchorage, Alaska, in 1972 for drunken driving. He posted bail and left town and was later convicted in absentia for reckless driving.
Jane Fonda, a two-time Oscar winner for "Klute" and "Coming Home," got two booking photos stemming from a 1970 incident in which she scuffled with a Cleveland police officer after being accused of smuggling prescription pills. This one is from her booking on the smuggling charge.
The following day Fonda again had her mugshot taken, capturing the iconic image of her raising a clenched fist, when she was arraigned on assault charges from the incident. Both charges were eventually dropped.

Rip Torn, a nominee for 1984's "Cross Creek," was arrested in December 2006 in Westchester, N.Y., and charged with drunken driving after his car collided with a tractor-trailer. He eventually pleaded guilty and had his license suspended for 90 days and paid a $380 fine.
Haley Joel Osment, an Oscar nominee at age 11 in 2000 for "The Sixth Sense," was charged with drunken driving and marijuana possession after a July 2006 crash in Los Angeles. He later pleaded no contest to the charges and avoided jail time.

Dennis Hopper, who earned nominations for "Hoosiers" and "Easy Rider's" screenplay, was arrested in New Mexico in July 1975 and charged with reckless driving, failure to report an accident, and leaving the scene. Hopper, 39 at the time, pleaded guilty to the charges and paid a fine.
Mickey Rourke, who would go on to earn an Oscar nomination for 2008's "The Wrestler," was arrested in July 1994 after allegedly slapping and kicking his wife, Carre Otis, in Los Angeles. Prosecutors dropped the charges after Otis failed to appear in court to testify.
Rourke was again arrested in November 2007 after Miami Beach, Fla., police said he was seen making an illegal U-turn on his Vespa scooter and then weaving across the road. He later pleaded guilty and received six months probation.
Dudley Moore, nominated in 1982 for "Arthur," was arrested for allegedly beating his fourth-wife-to-be Nicole Rothschild during an argument backstage at the 1994 Academy Awards. The charges were later dropped.
Marshall Mathers III (aka Eminem) won an Oscar for Best Song for "Lose Yourself" from the 2002 movie "8 Mile." He was also arrested twice in June 2000 on gun charges in Michigan.
Eric Roberts, nominated in 1986 for "Runaway Train," was arrested in February 1995 for allegedly shoving his wife, Eliza Garrett, into a wall. Police dropped the case after she refused to press charges.
Director Gus Van Sant, nominated in 1998 for "Good Will Hunting" and in 2009 for "Milk," was arrested in December 2006 on a drunken driving charge in Oregon.
Josh Brolin, nominated for his performance in 2008's "Milk," was arrested in July 2008 by Louisiana cops and charged with interfering with police business.
Matt Dillon, nominated for a supporting actor Oscar for "Crash," was arrested in December 2008 after a Vermont State Police trooper clocked his car going 106 mph. Dillon later pleaded guilty and paid a $828 fine.
Sam Shepard, nominated in 1984 for "The Right Stuff," was arrested in Illinois in January 2009 on a drunken driving charge. About a month later he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to probation, a $600 fine, community service and alcohol treatment.
Terrence Howard, nominated in 2006 for "Hustle & Flow," was arrested in August 2000 in Cleveland after a disturbance on a plane in which he allegedly grabbed a flight attendant by the wrist and pushed her. The misdemeanor was later dropped by a local prosecutor for lack of jurisdiction.
Howard was again arrested in Whitemarsh, Pa., in September 2001 for allegedly assaulting his estranged wife. Howard eventually pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct.
Ryan O'Neal, a Best Actor Oscar nominee in 1971 for "Love Story," was arrested in February 2007 for allegedly assaulting his son, but the charges were dismissed.
Although not a mug shot, Oscar-winner Paul McCartney (Best Original Song Score in 1971 as a member of The Beatles for "Let It Be") was deported from Japan in January 1980 for bringing almost half a pound of marijuana into Tokyo. He was detained for 10 days and was forced to cancel an 11-concert Wings tour of the country.
