Palisade football defeated Summit, 59-28 last week to set up a winner-take-all game against Rifle for the Western Slope League title.
The Bulldogs were led by senior running back Austin Bernal who carried the ball nine times for 129 yards with four touchdowns. He averaged more than 14 yards a carry.
"You can't say enough about him because he does everything in all phases of the game,” head coach Joe Ramunno says. “Not only that, but he's unselfish. He's there as a good team member for everybody else. He makes things happen."
It was also senior night and Bernal's birthday.
"It was pretty cool to have that experience,” Bernal says. “It was a big day for me. I turned 18. To be able to get some touchdowns on my birthday was pretty awesome. I’m glad my teammates were able to help me to do that."
Palisade will take on Rilfe on the road on Friday at 7 P.M.
