HS Baseball: Tigers primed for Bill Fanning Classic

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) The Bill Fanning Classic returns for another year beginning on Thursday.

Fanning was Grand Junction's legendary baseball coach for 35 years. In that span he posted a record of 467-172 with 21 state playoff appearances and three state titles.

"He was a great coach, great person in the valley," said Grand Junction baseball coach Justin Little. "Being able to play in this every year is awesome. This year we got three games which could be good. We're excited about it. We're ready to go."

The Tigers will open up the classic with a game against Horizon at 10 A.M. on Thursday at Suplizio Field.

"It's good to play team from around the valley," said Grand Junction sophomore Chavis Nourse. "In this tournament you get to play teams over on the Eastern Slope. It gets you ready for the season."

The games will be held at Suplizio and Canyon View Park from Thursday through Saturday.

Other teams participating include Fruita Monument, Central, Palisade, Rampart, Horizon and Rock Canyon
