It was a chilly rainy day in Pueblo as No. 17 CSU-Pueblo defended their home turf and took down No. 8 Colorado Mesa 30-24 on Saturday afternoon.
The first quarter was scoreless on both sides and Ryan Sheehan hit a 43 yard field at the beginning of the second and that gave the Mavs the 3-0 lead.
After the Thunderwolves tied the game up Virnel Moon gave the lead back to CMU. He took the kickoff 97 yards for the touchdown and made it 10-3 CMU.
Just before halftime CSU-Pueblo took the lead as they connect on a 43 yard hail marry touchdown.
The Mavs got within six late in the 4th quarter, but could not over a turn over on down as they dropped their first game of the season.
Colorado Mesa will return home next weekend for a showdown with Black Hills State at Stocker Stadium.
