Jumping from one level of softball to another can sometimes be a challenge but for CMU sophomore Kimbri Herring it’s been a successful one.
She is this week’s athlete of the week.
On the softball diamond CMU sophomore Kimbri Herring has been on a role winning her 8 out of her last 9 games in a row on the pitching mound. CMU Head Coach Ben Garcia had nothing but high praise for her.
"Kimbri is just awesome, she really is. The kid is a workhorse. She throws and throws and throws. She's just been phenomenal for us all year", said Garcia.
For the sophomore mound has always felt like a second home.
“I just love the game and I’ve been doing this for a majority of my life I’m just comfortable on the mound. It helps to have a great team behind me so”, said Herring.
Through 18 games on the mound, the sophomore is sporting an 12-1 record with an earned run average under three, and coach thinks Herring and the pitching staff is in a good place.
Garcia said, “If you are trying to ride that first pitcher and you get into a losers bracket then you are going to be in trouble. We have confidence in all three of our pitchers but especially those two to be able to carry us where we need to be."
For Herring this season has been all about adjustments
"Going from NJCAA to NCAA has been quite the adjustment, but I think it has helped me grow as a person as well as a player to have more confidence in myself”, said Herring.
