Coming into this season sophomore Cameron Tucker had played in just five varsity games in his high school career, but during the offseason he knew he wanted to take over the reins at quarterback.
He is this week’s athlete of the week.
“He comes from a coaching family so I know that it is in his blood. He really loves the game of football and I think that’s the biggest thing. The kid really cares about what he is doing and he's a great leader and a great teammate to these guys,” said head coach Joe Ramunno.
Headed into the 2017 season with only 5 seniors on the varsity roster they knew it would be a challenge.
"We are really young but at some point we knew we were coming to have to come of age. Every victory we have had has been a team win, so it’s just been everybody doing their job. Everybody is maturing up and it’s been really good so far," said Cam Tucker.
Tucker may be an underclassman, but he has led the bulldogs to a 9-2 record and a quarterfinal playoff appearance and the seniors have all the trust in the world in their young signal caller.
"He’s really led our team to a lot of wins and he’s just a great leader for our team. I am happy we have him and I’m happy we have him as my quarterback," said senior Austin Bernal.
The Bulldogs will continue their title chase on Saturday in the quarterfinals on the road at Roosevelt High School with kickoff set for 1:00 P.M.
