Athlete of the Week: Bligh Madris

An injury can put someone’s sports career in jeopardy but for CMU baseball's Bligh Madris it just made him that much better.

He is this week’s athlete of the week.

As an underclass in 2016 CMU baseball’s Bligh Madris was expecting to make a big impact on the diamond, but a hand injury put those hopes in hold.

So far in 2017, Madris has been on fire with a bat in his hands hitting .446 with 13 homeruns and 53 RBI’s, but it would not have been possible without the help of many people around him.

"I have to thank a lot of people but mainly my coaches here at CMU and most of all my teammates. My teammates have had my back through the rehab process through surgery through everything. They helped me get back and be the player that I am today”, said Madris.

The weight room and therapy must of payed off because 46 games through the season Madris leads the RMAC in virtually every batting stat category.

Everyone around the CMU baseball program especially Head Coach Chris Hanks sees big things in store for Madris in the near future.

“I think Bligh will play professional baseball and it could be as early as this summer. I think he is going to play after college and I think he has a chance to do well in doing it”, said Hanks.

For Madris it has always been his dream to play professional ball, but that's not what he is focused on.

“That is not where my focus is on right now. It is if I keep playing for my team good things will happen. I just have to trust the process and just keep my faith in the process and good things will happen”, said Madris.
