PALISADE, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Two recreational pot shops are one step closer to opening in the Grand Valley.
City leaders in Palisade decided to do a random drawing to see who would get the additional two licenses.
H and S LLC, and THC2 won. During the lottery, town leaders selected other shops that would get a chance if anything falls through for the winners.
There are still a few hoops to jump through before the winners can open up shop, which is leaving runners-up hopeful something goes wrong. The winners have to apply to the state now. If everything checks out, they come back to the town and apply for a conditional use permit.
"The first priority candidate, THC2, is in a zone district that prohibits retail marijuana stores so their property requires a re-zoning. If they cannot achieve a re-zoning we would go and move forward in the process," said Renee Grossman, the owner of High Q, who got second priority.
The town said they did the lottery so that every business had a fair chance of getting one of the licenses.
